Digimon and Philosophy:
A metaphor for the growing power of emotion in society brought by Digital Media
As we all know, some of us too well, words are powerful forces. They can topple evil, and yet bring it about just as easily. However, words, until very recently, have been limited in scope.
A thousand years ago, the power of words was very limited. Books were few and far between, and often physicaly strength and control was the law of the land.
Words, when becoming more accesible to the public in the first advance of media, printed press, gained great power that they once did not have. Something someone said one day to a few people could be spread across a country in far greater clarity and speed than by mere word of mouth. The convition, and the feeling in words itself gained power, before whih it had none.
In the last century, the advances in media have been astronomical. Radio, Television, computers, and the internet have all exponentially increased the power of the emotion carried in words. No longer could it be like in the dark ages, where one could assume power by mere brute strength. One had to use the power of his own emotions to pursuade people to their ideals, and this could only come about in a practical way through advances in media.
This is where digimon comes in. Digimon represent the power of words that now exists in modern day life. However, they require a human aspect, a true emotion and drive behind them, to gain a strength so pure and just that nothing can topple it.
Without the digimon(media, information) the DD/tamer's convictions would be nothing but thoughts.
Without the humans(emotion, conviction), the digimon would be stuck in a low level of power, unable to do much at all.
It is because of the power brought to one's convictions and emotion that only media can truly get out to people, a power is created that, when just, can supplant all others.
The humans are the ideals, and the digimon are the means to make those ideals heard and give them power.
