Digimon Adventure 02

The second season, following the first and introducing new characters with an all new adventure.

Davis Motomiya

Digimon Partner: Veemon
Age: 11
Davis is an extremely stubborn in personality. He took over the position as team leader from his mentor Tai and received his idol's goggles during the handover. Although he often rushes into things and makes mistakes, his courage in the face of outstanding odds cannot be denied. No matter how dire the situation, he always believes that they can somehow make it through. There is certainly no one more suited to the Digi-Egg of Courage than Davis. Davis is always getting into trouble about his intense jealousy towards anyone he sees as a rival for Kari's affections, not the least of whom is T.K.

However, Davis quickly became a serious leader, he has an optimistic view and was the first to forgive Ken and tried to be friends. Davis also was able to lead the others into believing they could win, when MaloMyotismon appeared. He refused to give up and kept fighting, which helped the others to fight as well. He also helped bring them back into reality when they were hit by MaloMyotismon’s illusion. Davis knows when to have fun, but he is also serious at the right time, which makes him one of the best leaders in Digimon series.

Ken Ichijouji

Digimon Partner: Wormmon
Age: 11
Ken is the final member of the 02 DigiDestined, partnered with Wormmon and holder of the Crest of Kindness. At first the devious Digimon Emperor, Ken tries hard to atone for his wicked acts and eventually is helped along the way by Davis and the others. It’s been evident from the start that Yolei has a crush on him. As a young child, Ken always felt that he was passed over by his parents in favor of his older brother Sam (Osamu in Japan), a child prodigy. Ken bore a grudge toward Sam as a result.

As the Emperor, Ken had many conflicts with the new DigiDestined as he planed to rule the Digital World. Ken's dark Digivice prevented the Digimon from being able to naturally evolve, but Davis, Cody, and Yolei were able to "Armor Digivolve" to defeat his Dark Ring-enslaved Digimon. During one battle, they discovered that the Dark Spires controlled the power and also began destroying them as well. When his creation, Kimeramon, turned on him and was subsequently defeated by Magnamon, Ken couldn’t believe that he had lost. He proclaimed he would reset the Digital World, thinking it was just a computer program. When the DigiDestined explained to him that it was a real place and that Digimon were living creatures, Ken collapsed, realizing the cruelty he had inflicted and Wormmon's death sparked the sadness he had for Sam's death. Numbly, Ken staggered off to return home.

Ken slept for days, in a pseudo-coma, where memories of his brother, the Digivice and his first trip to the Digital World returned in his mind. When he awoke, he had amnesia and could not recognize his parents. He traveled to the Digital World where, at Primary Village, he was reunited with Leafmon, the Baby form of Wormmon. Since then, Ken vowed to make up for the horrible deeds he committed. As he did, he learned that he was used by Arukenimon when she took all data relating to the Control Spires from the boy's computer. With Stingmon (Wormmon's Champion form), he begins the daunting task of destroying the Control Spires that he erected.

At first, upon learning that Ken was back and doing good, Davis wanted to ask Ken to join the team, but none of the other DigiDestined liked the idea, particularly Cody. They were convinced that he was still evil when Ken ordered Stingmon to destroy Thundermon in Primary Village. The DigiDestined believed that Thundermon was a real Digimon, but he was actually created from a Control Spire. Once the DigiDestined learned that in the next battle, they became more accepting. Ken officially became a member of the team when ExVeemon and Stingmon DNA Digivolved to Paildramon. Despite joining the team, Ken felt uncomfortable around the others, particularly Cody, who still strongly disliked him for what he did. However, Ken helped out in all the battles against Arukenimon, Mummymon and BlackWarGreymon.

When Digimon began to appear on Christmas Day, Ken and Wormmon went to Mexico City with Matt and Gabumon to help Rosa and Gotsumon round up the wild Digimon there. Later that night, when Ken got home, he had a dream of his first time in the Digital World and the Dark Spore. The next day, Daemon and his Daemon Corps began to appear in Tokyo, wreaking havoc in search of Ken and the Dark Spore. But Arukenimon managed to convince Ken to come with her, using the children she 'kidnapped' to motivate him.

Once inside the truck, Ken met Oikawa, who revealed the nature of Dark Spore and copied its data into the other children, who had all been taken willingly. After the events that result with Daemon's banishment & Oikawa's escape, Ken finally introduced his stunned parents to Wormmon and the following day, now aware of what was going on, Ken’s father was happy to help the children look for Oikawa.

By December 30, Ken and the other DigiDestined (with Matt, Izzy and Joe) were standing watch at Hikarigota, waiting for the Dark Spore kids to arrive. When they were all congregated there, Oikawa arrived and began the process that would have the Spores convert the children’s energies into an energy he could use to enter the Digital World. Ken demanded to know why he had been chosen and what the Control Spires were for. Oikawa happily explained and opened the portal. The 02 DigiDestined followed him, only to discover that they weren’t in the Digital World at all but some bizarre other dimension. This is when the ghost of Myotismon, an enemy of the former Digidestined revealed that he was behind everything. He explained how he entered Oikawa's body not long after his defeat and used Oikawa to help him in his revenge. He also abandoned Oikawa’s body and used the power of the Spores to Digivolve into MaloMyotismon, his Mega form.

The villain subjected the kids to illusions of their greatest desires. For Ken, on some subconscious level, his desire was to see himself punished for what he did as the Digimon Emperor and to have his brother back. But "Sam" told Ken that he couldn't change the past but could ensure a future for himself. Following his "brother's" final words and angry at having been manipulated yet again, Ken released his guilt, crying out that he wasn’t the Emperor any more and that he had been punished enough. And with that, he helped in the final battle against Malo-Myotismon.

Yolei Inou

Digimon Partner: Hawkmon
Age: 12
She is partnered to Hawkmon. Yolei is a touch on the geeky side, stubborn, cheeky and impulsive. While she is somewhat loud and bold, she is very sincere and true to her feelings to the point where she is often unaware of others or how her feelings are affecting them. Yolei is compassionate and generous, but capable of being decisive and resourceful. She has odd tendencies to suddenly become depressed without explanation, but always finds the strength to come back and help her friends. Yolei has a crush on Ken Ichijouji. She is apparently the youngest of four siblings. She has two sisters and a brother.

Sometimes Yolei wishes what it would be like without her brothers or sisters, it was scene in Yolei's illusion where she was alone and eating all the desert, but with a little help from her friends, especially Hawkmon, she is able to put aside the wish to be an only child and go back to loving her brothers and sisters.

TK Takaishi

Digimon Partner: Patamon
Age: 11
In the second season, he had a growth spurt and becomes more like his older brother (except that he is more polite). However, he still suffers from the old emotional scars from when Angemon died fighting Devimon and deeply wishes to put down all evil forces so that his own personal tragedy never happens again.

Because what happened to Patamon in season one, he would get extremely angry and revengeful, which confused some of the other digidestined. His wish is that his family could be back together again, which was seen in his illusion, where everybody was sitting at the dinner table talking and laughing together.

Kari Kamiya

Digimon Partner: Gatomon
Age: 11
Kari grew a lot during the last 3 years, becoming more mature and less sickly. She became perkier and braver. Her new hobby was photography. In place of her whistle, she now had a digital camera around her neck. Kari also loves playing jokes on the other digidestined. She plays every tricks she has up her sleeve and gets away with them, having a good laugh.

Soetimes Kari keeps too much to herself, which made her vulerable to a place caleld the Dark Ocean, where all the dark thoughts came to life. She was taken there a few times, which worried Gatomon and TK extremely much.

She and Yolei also share a special friendship despite their differences, especially when they realised they were DNA partners. Yolei said she would never let Kari fight alone.

She is crushed on by Davis and she knows it. She often teased him by flirting with T.K. to spite him. Kari always felt safe around Tai and T.K., as they knew how she feels. They sensed her feelings for the Dark Ocean. She shares a special bond with T.K., who was a DigiDestined with her before, and they know better than the rest the dangers of the Digital World.

Cody Hida

Digimon Partner: Armadillomon
Age: 9
He is partnered with Armadillomon. Despite being the youngest of the DigiDestined, he's the most serious. A lot of his wisdom comes from his grandfather, Chikara Hida, who is also Cody's Kendo teacher.

He obtains his D3, Armdillomon and the Digi-Egg of Knowledge on the first week of school. A little later, Cody began to fear that he was letting the team down but his grandfather convinced him that all he has to do was try his hardest and that way, he wasn't letting anyone down.

Sora Takenouchi
The second season takes place three years after the original. During this time, Sora loses some of her tomboyishness and is now learning flower arranging from her mother. Although she no longer plays soccer, she is in the tennis club and still joins the other Digidestined whenever they can. There are signs that show that Sora develops feelings for Matt like when Sora goes backstage to give Matt some homemade cookies during the Christmas special.

Matt Ishida
Matt became the vocalist and bass player for a rock band, the Teenage Wolves. He was very popular and girls were always running up to him wanting his autograph. One of his biggest fans was the older sister of Davis, June Motomiya. Some liked this comical relief for this series. But near the finale, Matt developed a relationship with Sora and there are also signs that show this like when Matt says that he should be jealous of Yuri because Sora kept talking about how Yuri was going to take them for lunch. One time when Tai felt he had let down Agumon, Matt punched him in the face to try and get him to snap out of it. Unlike in the previous season; Tai said "He needed it."

Mimi Tachikawa
During Season 2, a gate to the Digital World opens in America, allowing Mimi to access the Digital World. How she enters is never explained - the gate can only be opened by the D-3 Digivice, and Mimi only has the original model.

She plays an important role in the episode that Arukenimon makes her first appearance. She is playing with a bunch of Snowbotomon, while Palmon is out collecintg more food. While Palmon is out, she notices Arukenimon converting a control spire into a Digimon. Arukenimon orders the Digimon to destroy the dam. Palmon runs back to warn Mimi, who messages the others to come help. During the battle, after all five of the Digidestined's Digimon are exhausted and defeated, Mimi messages Ken to come help despite the protests from Cody and Yolei.

Tai Kamiya
In this series, he has entered high school. Tai has grown emotionally by this time. He is much calmer and less likely to act without thinking. Tai plays a major role in the first episode "Enter Flamedramon". When he senses that Agumon is in trouble, he mysteriously enters the Digital World and tries to help him out. Along with Patamon and Gatomon, he finds a cave that has a Digi-Egg with the crest of Courage on it. He tries to lift it up (and fails), which causes three points of light to rise and fly off. They are the three Digivices that Davis, Cody, and Yolei receive. After the battle with Monochromon, Tai also gives Davis his goggles, since Davis broke his square gogggles in the battle.

Joe Kido
All his studying pays off as he now attends a private junior high school. He later is busy studying for the high school entrance exams while helping the others out with the spare time that he has.

Izzy Izumi:
Although he grew, he is still short compared to the other DigiDestined - he is only as tall as the new soccer team. Izzy seems to have a lot of free time and often stops by the computer club at the elementary school to help the new DigiDestined in almost every episode. He is still into computers and is curious about the D-3s and other items the new DigiDestined have access to. According to Yolei, he is somewhat revered as the former president of the school's computer club.
