Episode I
“No, mom… don’t leave me here… It’s too crowded… There are too many people... They flatten me…” The little boy shooked in his bed, harrassed by a restless sleep and a distressing dream. His eyelids moved very quickly, while his little hand, the hand of a five years old boy, crumpled the sheets. “Mom, please, came back! MOM!!!!...” His weak voice turned up gradually, until it ended in a desperate scream. The little boy woke up, startled, breathing heavily. For a second he wasn’t sure of where he was. And then he started to cry, in the same moment that the door of his room was opened with violence. A ray of light entered in the room, driving away the dark. It was almost three o‘clock in the morning. “Ken-chan, sweetie!” said the scared voice of her mother “What’s the matter?” The little boy swept his tears away with his hand, but for some reason, he couldn’t stop crying… The kind woman sat aside him, trying to calm him. “Oh, my little love… Had it been a nightmare? Come here... Oh, sweetie, you’re trembling –she wrapped him, feeling his heart was throbbing very fast- “My little son, don’t worry, it was only a dream... All is over...” She looked at the face of his trembling little child, and smiled. Ken had stopped crying, but he still looked frightened. “What have you dreamt about? It was something really bad? Do you want to tell it to mommy?” Ken almost opened his mouth to start talking, but suddenly, a disturbing image crossed his mind. He was at the front door of the school. Her mother had gone to pick up him and his brother, Osamu, like she did everyday. But this time, she only took the hand of his brother. She had looked at him, but she said nothing. It was like if he didn’t exist anymore. Like if she never had had a second son. He tried to call her, desperatly; he wasn’t able to move out of school’s front door... Children came in and out; there were a lot of people, too much people, and her mother didn’t realize him... Ken said nothing. He bowed his head, distressed. “I can’t remember it, mommy...” She smiled, touched, and removed a lock of his dark hair, soft and silky, of his forehead. “Don’t worry, Ken-chan... Everything is fine now, all right? Do you want me to be here with you until you fall asleep?” Ken smiled, feeling that teardrops were fighting to appear in his blue eyes again, but he could hold them back. “Thanks, mommy…” he said gratefully, with his soft child voice. She closed her eyes in a funny smile, and wrapped him up. The little Ken looked at her with a sweet expression, feeling, suddenly, a great love for her. “But... If my mommy loves me very much...” A shadow distorsionated the light that slightly appeared behind the half-opened door. A boy, who was about eight years old, came into the room. He was in his pyajamas and had a sleepy face. It was obviously that the screams of his little brother had waken up him. “What’s has happened, mum...? - he asked while he rubbed his eyes inside the glasses. She turned to the boy with a great smile in her face, and the most dark of anguishes invaded Ken’s heart again. But it dissapeared when his mother paid attention to him again, wrapping up him, tenderly. “It’s all right, Osamu-chan ―she said― Ken has had a nightmare. Come on, come back to bed...” Osamu shrugged his shoulders, and sleepy, he turned over and left the room. “Why my mum does not pay attention to me...? Why she hardly hears to me when onii-san is near us? My mum loves me... I can’t understand it... Ken asked it to himself, again and again, while her mother was touching lightly his dark blue hair. And he finally fell asleep.
